You began looking at intended and unintended messages in a media artifact, generally, in the Module Three journal task, but for this milestone you are now focusing your examination of these messages—including the role and impact of bias—as they relate to your final project artifact selection.
Review the Module Four resources and your work in the Module Three journal task. Use the
Same Power Point Template identify the intended and unintended messages in the media artifact that you are analyzing for your final project. Be sure also to discuss the impact that bias has on these messages. Remember, you do not have to deliver this presentation. You are simply preparing the presentation you might use if you were to present.
Note: You will work on the
same template throughout the course, rather than on different templates for each milestone.
For this milestone, you will complete Slide 5 (“Messaging”) and Slide 6 (“Bias and Perception”) of your chosen final project template. Use the speaker notes section to further explain the details of your slide. Also, be sure to delete the existing text in the template and replace it with your own.
Specifically, the following
critical elements must be addressed:
I.
Messaging: In this slide, Slide 5 (“Messaging”), you will identify the intended and unintended messages that are portrayed by your artifact.
A.
Intended messages: What are the
intended messages that the artifact is trying to convey? In responding to this question, consider the persuasive concepts that were used, why they were used, and the intended meanings and emotions portrayed. Include the features of your artifact contributing to the message.
B.
Unintended messages: What are the
unintended messages conveyed by the artifact? Support your reasoning with examples from features of your artifact contributing to the message.
II.
Bias and Perception: In this slide, Slide 6 (“Bias and Perception”), you will describe the role bias plays in your artifact.
A. Explain the influence of
corporate bias on the message. What are the corporate biases present in your artifact? How do these biases influence the way the intended and unintended messages are presented?
B. Based on the social and cultural considerations you identified for your audience, identify possible
perceptions the audience could bring to viewing the artifact.
C. Explain how these perceptions might
impact your audience’s understanding of the artifact.
