This assignment will be a short paper (3 typed pages) analyzing a published language arts lesson. In your analysis, you must answer the following three questions: In what ways does this lesson support second language learners? In what ways is this lesson unnecessarily difficult for second language learners? In what specific ways could this lesson be changed to better meet the needs of ELL students? The revision of the lesson to meet the needs of ELL students (and your explanation of those revisions) is the most important element of the paper. NOTE:
1. This is a paper about a lesson plan; it is not a lesson plan.
2. Your central purposes as a writer is to show that you understand and can apply the material presented in class and in the Rubenstein-Avila journal article that you will find in the course information page of BlackBoard. Here’s a useful format for the paper: Briefly summarize the lesson that we covered in class in a paragraph Discuss ways (if any) in which this lesson is approachable for ELL students Discuss ways in which this lesson would be difficult for ELL students. Draw upon your class notes and the journal article here. (This should be a substantial discussion of several paragraphs.) Suggest ways that the lesson could be changed to make it more “user-friendly” for ELL students. Again, draw upon your class notes and the journal article here. (This also should be a substantial discussion of several paragraphs.) Ensure that you use appropriate second language acquisition terminology to demonstrate your understanding of the theoretical principles. Include an APA style references page
